In-Win’s Chopin – A Concerto in Black

In-Win, known for some time for their creative (but generally unremarkable) SFF designs, has been branching out as of late. From their H and D Frame cases, to more sedate variants, the company has begun to make inroads towards the mainstream market instead of the traditional OEM and system integrator markets. Today we are looking at the In-Win Chopin, a premium take on the BQ series. This case features an integrated 150w PSU, a mixed aluminium and steel design, and an interesting design element that we may have seen before, which we’ll discuss below. John’s Weekly Mini-Rant – M-STX, Do We Really Need Another Form Factor?

This is one of a series of weekly mini-rants by your faithful correspondent, John Morrison. These is a regular series focusing on issues in the SFF niche. All content is entirely opinion of John, not of SmallFormFactor.net, and should not be taken as fact. About a year ago, Intel previewed a new form factor, as a slightly larger brother to the NUC format that they had championed. This new format was called “5×5″ in reference to the 5 inch by 5 inch PCB the board used (we’ll not get into Metric versus antiquated measurement systems here!). We didn’t hear much more about …

ASRock has just launched their new A88M-ITX/ac motherboard, featuring AMD’s socket FM2+ and the A88X chipset. Lian Li is on a Boat

First up, apologies for the ancient pop culture reference in the title. Lian-Li tends to produce a wacky product every few years. A while back, the the PC-CK101 puffed on to the scene, a train themed M-ITX chassis that had many of us scratching our heads in confusion. We’ve only just caught wind of this interesting enclosure that continues the trend, an all-aluminium yacht-like design, the PC-Y6. The design is certain to make waves, and while this case is rather large (58 litres based on box dimensions), it is very unique, and it should be able to sail into history as another amazing …

Jonsbo C2 – Sitting In The Middle

In the search for a chassis to fit my slightly oversized M-DTX motherboard, I came across the Jonsbo C2. Jonsbo may not seem like a familiar name, but the company supplies quite a few different models to Rosewill. I bought this case to run my every day system, so quality, quietness and cooling capacity were major decision points. So far in use, I would say that quality and quietness are of a good standard, however cooling leaves a bit to be desired. Let’s look at this product in a bit more detail: The box is very simple, but sufficiently thick enough to protect the …
