Streacom’s Computex Offerings

Unfortunately we were unable to make it to Streacom’s suite at Computex this year, but never fear, Streacom sent me an overview of the new products they have this year. (how kind of them!) In the press release resided 3 products, however due to our innate thirst for a smaller system, only two of the products are relevant to us. First up – An active cooled variant of Streacom’s DB4, released last year. The DA4 changes things up a bit versus the DB4, meaning that this is more inspired by the DB4 than derived from. Gone is the heatsink aesthetic, replaced by …

This review has been written by forum member IntoxicatedPuma, and reflects their views, not necessarily those of SmallFormFactor.net. Only minor edits for readability have been made.  [mks_separator style=”blank” height=”2″] Since a lot of people don’t have access to cases and computer components inside China – or at least it is difficult to get them – I figured I would start a series to review some of the unique cases and components that are only sold locally. First up from The China Desk: Metal Fish’s Metal Book. [mks_separator style=”blank” height=”2″] Basic Information & Background I purchased this on Taobao using the …

!nverse launches on IndieGoGo

Project !nverse: The Most Versatile Small Computer Case, one of our most active design projects on the forum, has launched on IndieGoGo. Starting at US$149 plus shipping ($129 for an early bird!), the case offers great value for money and would suit many configurations. From one of the creators, Ray Yu: “My venture into the world of custom-designed cases began when I started building in the tiny Minibox M350 case. Being in a long-distance relationship, I needed something small and powerful so I can take my research with me on a 13-hour train ride every weekend. My pragmatic need for a portable …

A Byte of Gigabyte at CES

Yep, pun intended. Nope, I’m not sorry. Nearing the end of the final day of CES 2017, Drew Duncan, our reporter on the ground at the show, grabbed these snapshots of the Gigabyte booth. [mks_separator style=”blank” height=”2″] RGB LEDs! Also, armoured PCIe and RAM slots. I’m waiting for a full armoured board… I am liking the trend towards IO covers, the stacks of ports can be a little ugly in custom builds.
