iBase MBN806, the First AMD Snowy Owl Motherboard to Appear in the Wild

iBase, a Taiwan based networking and embedded motherboard and system manufacturer, seems to be the first company to market with AMD’s Snowy Owl platform. As a reminder, AMD’s Snowy Owl is the embedded version of EPYC, AMD’s datacentre processor range. Based on the BGA2028 “socket” (BGA is Ball Grid Array, meaning this is a soldered on chip), the iBase MBN806 is powered by an eight-core, eight-thread EPYC Embedded 3201 SoC with a clock speed of up to 2.3 GHz. Feeding this octo-core SoC, quad DDR4 memory slots support up to 128GB of registered, or 64GB of unregistered memory, in either …

Sapphire Releases a RX 550 with Extra Horsepower

Hot on the heels of the RX560 LITE launch, Sapphire also snuck a slightly upgraded RX550 on to their product stack, based on “Polaris 21” silicon, rather than the Polaris 20 silicon, that the RX 550 is normally built on.  The Pulse Radeon RX 550 2GD5/4GD5 (model: 11268-16 for 2 GB and 11268-15 for 4 GB) has 10 out of 16 compute units physically present on the chip, which translates to 640 stream processors, higher than the 512 stream processors the RX 550 is originally designed to have. The card is running the core at a 1071 MHz core clock …

Fatal1ty! ASRock’s X370 and AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac Motherboards Reviewed

History lesson time folks! Back in the early 2000’s, a FPS shooter player, Johnathan ‘Fatal1ty’ Wendel, was dominating the competitive gaming scene, earning attention from not only the gaming fraternity, but mainstream media also. Soon enough, a company, ABit, approached Fatal1ty with a brand deal. ABit would build Fatal1ty branded hardware, cementing his name in the minds of the gamers and hardware enthusiasts of the era. ABit unfortunately fell, along with DFI, BFG and a few other contemporaries. What once were glorious hardware manufacturers, became relegated to history.
