Reg and ECC. X99 boards work with Xeon E5-v3 and E5-v4 processors, that are widely available on ebay. Even though it's a bit older generation, you can pick up 12 core CPU for under $200.I believe some of i7 models work with Reg Ecc ram too. That's not very helpful unless you already have such CPU: it's cheaper to get new Xeon rather then hunt for specific i7 CPU.
