I’m no web designer, but a long time ago, when Web 2 was just being talked about, I had some limited ability because I had just done an undergraduate module on HTML/CSS (I was studying History of Ideas, which is a sub-set of philosophy, and logic is a sub-set of philosophy…). So I got roped in for a web site to do grunt work. Anyway we (or they) called it ‘mangled’. Because people were never completely happy we ‘mangled the overlying HTML/CSS (and that would have been the total limit of my ability) so that someone visiting the website could ‘have it there way’ (yes we nicked that from Burger King)- the underlying stuff was the same but it presented in three different ‘styles’/ ways. This went a long way to resolve some common complaints. The underlying stuff (database and so on) was quite complex (certainly for me) but I wasn’t involved in that part because as I say I am no web designer and never wasI don’t know if the idea is of any value here but just thought I would mention it. It seems a lot of people are asking for a utilitarian ‘list’ style and I think that could be done via ‘mangling’?My position is 'wait and see', people are obviously putting a lot of work in and I don't want to demotivate them because the next idea might be absolutely excellent. So, let them finish then we can start the debate- some things grow on you over time as well, That said I do agree with much of what people are saying.
