Twenty-Four years ago, Apple launched the still iconic G4 Cube. This system was short lived on the market, but was one of the most unique SFF systems ever offered by an OEM. It’s become sought after, and functional units in good condition still go for upwards of $500 today.
The G4 Cube wasn’t a powerhouse in its time due to a lack of active cooling. However, Action Retro, seen above saying “alas poor RISC, I knew him.”, takes this little machine from a single 450 MHz G4 to a Dual CPU 1 GHz mini retro monster. Loved it, but take from a guy who had a G4 tower, they were a lesson in patience. Even my G5 was slow but I converted it to an 8th-generation I7 and runs Win 11 pro and Sonoma flawlessly. I have a RX 6600 for the GPU. I even a custom tempered glass door using the factory latch system.
