I was wondering because supposedly one header can be split into 2 ports, and you can find all sorts of differrent Y splitter cable providing 2 usb port OTHER than type-c, while it's always 1to1 header to type-c than exists.

Is this by design? Any reading material anywhere? Looking at the pinout it sorta makes sense - type-c has 24 pins but I always thought they are symmetrical (so functionally only 12)

Well...

Not sure about dual-ports though :/ that link isn't referral by the way, just the first I came across. I'm sure there's cheaper.

Type-C also supports higher voltages/amperage and USB 3.1 gen 2 speed, which USB 3.0 headers don't as far as I know. So it's OK if it's for basic functionality.

Wait a minute... so type-c is usb 3.1 not 3.0? But usb 3.1 gen 1 also have the same 20-pin header as 3.0 right?

Hmm I can't seem to find any article explaining these versions..

It's really confusing.

Type C is just the connector, it can be USB 2.0 or 3.1. It can also have HDMI, DisplayPort, ThunderBolt, etc.

There is no such thing as "USB 3.0" any more. There is only USB 3.1 now.

USB 3.1 gen 1 is the same as USB 3.0.
USB 3.1 gen 2 is faster than USB 3.1 gen 1.

It will be even more confusing when 3.2 comes because there will be even more overlaps!

So confusing.
