I did something similar with an old laptop screen. I turned it into a retro-pi standalone system.

Mine is timber and routed to suit.

Once you have the interface hardware sorted, the housing should be simple.

To work out what interface hardware you need, you have to either find out the model of the panel they use inside, or pull it apart and find out yourself.

The reason you’ll need an external interface as it’s normally built into the motherboard in these devices.

Then, jump on eBay and search for LCD panel HDMI driver controller boards. Mine was about $40 from China and takes HDMI in, VGA in, DVI in, and outputs to the really flat ribbon cable that goes into the panel.

Those boards are panel specific to an extent.

Here is a link to what I mean.

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone here has the knowhow to explain to me whether to not it is possible to mod this display (or one that is similar):

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/COMPLETE-KI...524710?hash=item1ebc523ba6:g:mLAAAOSwLdBaQpym

What I'd ideally like to do is 3D print a new enclosure and make a portable monitor from it for my S4M.
Be cautious regarding ordering the controller. I built one back when I created K'NNECTED and it overdrove the CCFL. Kill half of the backlight in about a year.

Because why not? Modding and creating is the core of this community, rather than just throwing cash at a possibly compromised product.
Hear hear!

We had this huge thread of readily available such monitors, why bother?

Sorry but I must have missed that. Any chance you could link the thread? Short of the Lukos brand monitors, I've got to say most of the ones I've seen look pretty shithouse GeChic etc.).
