News Microsoft released an emergency Windows update that disables Intel's buggy Spectre fixes

This update is available on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, though please note that this software patch is optional and should only be used by those who use affected Intel systems. If you haven't installed a Spectre Variant 2 BIOS update, you do not require this Windows update.

I just picked up a 8700 non-K in December too. Dumb me decided to get coffee lake early for a build instead of waiting for the new CPUs. I thought it'd be ok with minimal patch performance impact, but now that the fixes are buggy it feels like I got shafted for thinking to wait for patches.

I run Skylake at work and Kaby at home and haven't had reboot issues.
