I meant to post this a while ago but never got round to it, its not really relevant to this thread other than I used the LZ7 as the case to test in:
Over the festive break I carried out an experiment to find out if you could play modern games such as Battlefield 1 and Fallout 4 using low performance CPU's paired with a good dedicated GPU. The overall purpose was to see whether you could build a really low budget gaming PC to rival a games console in terms of cost and graphics performance if you don't mind using second hand (used) parts.
The CPUs tested were a 25W TDP AMD Athlon 5350 and an Intel Core i3-3240, for the GPU a GTX 960 was used. With these components and the help of EBay you could technically build a gaming PC for under £250. You can read all about it HERE.
TL;DR
The Athlon 5350 is capable of playing Fallout 4 in 1080p at around 35 - 40 FPS with High settings. For Battlefield 1 the 5350 requires the settings turned down low to achieve 30+ FPS at 1080p in the single player campaign, but for multiplayer it was unplayable with a choppy framerate of around 15 FPS using the same low settings.
Switching to the Intel Core i3-3240 improved things dramatically, delivering 60+ FPS in Fallout 4 on Ultra settings, and 40+ FPS in Battlefield 1 multiplayer on Ultra settings. Not bad considering the CPU was released in 2012.
