SilverStone FX600 Platinum Flex ATX Power Supply

Flex ATX power supplies have gained popularity in the never ending hunt for smaller and smaller PCs in the SFF world. Many though are industrial and server PSUs that will leave you deaf with their fans, or under powered for a high-end GPU.  Silverstone has taken notice and produced FX600 aimed squarely at the sweet spot of SFF.
SilverStone sent us this PSU as a review sample. They issued no requirements, expectations, guidance, or demands for the review. They just sent it. As always, I will commend companies that show integrity in their review samples and SilverStone has always shown the highest integrity with SFFN and myself.
The box is a standard Silverstone affair. Inside you find the SX600 PSU wrapped in bubble wrap, screws, and power cable...

Would be great if we can get confirmation exactly what is different between this unit and the black Enhance 7660b. From what I gathered, the fan may be different, perhaps the fan curve as well, and the cable lengths.

I don't have an Enhance 7660B to compare fan profiles but on paper they seem similar. 7660B has a very different cable set setup. SilverStone seems setup for higher power builds with more peripherals. Also the 7660B has a 180 day or 1 year warranty depending on the seller. The SilverStone one is either 3 or 5 years. The Enhance seems to have been tuned for Velka cases.

The black ENP-7660B sold by Velkase is actually a customized unit with lengths and cables to suit Velka 3. The stock silver ENP-7660B actually has similar cable lengths and connectors as the Silverstone FX600. The minor difference is that just has one 8pin CPU/EPS cable instead of two 8pins CPU/EPS in the FX600.

The black ENP-7660B sold by Overtek is also customized with a slightly different cables and lengths. It has more SATA connectors but less Molex/Peripheral connectors.

I did have the stock ENP-7660B which I bought from Taobao. The cables are definitely excessive for my 4.25L M24 case. Excuse the horrible cable mess below lol.

I'm currently pulling 590 to 605 watts from the wall (Kill A Watt) and PSU fan has barely ramped up.

Edit: After an hour and half of this load it barely spun up the fan.

Good to see we are seeing progress with the FLEX-ATX form factor. Just need a few more companies to enter the enthusiast space, like Corsair, EVGA or Seasonic.

Hoping future revisions involved GAN and/or modular cables.

How is the quality of the steel enclosure? Just wondering if SilverStone has cheaped out on anything compared to the 7660b. Any coilwhine? I remain suspicious. ;)

I think it is now in March that we should see the new HDPlex GaN implementations, which I guess are modular. Very interesting. Although I wouldn't be suprised if it is delayed.

Holy moly, sounds like we have a serious FlexATX competitor in our midst. Now if Silverstone had just added modular cables it would be everyone's #1 choice!

I imagine the 80Plus Platinum rating is helping a LOT in terms of the noise, because far less heat to dissipate. Unless the Enhance ones are also Platinum rated...?

Both are Platinum rated and most likely the Silverstone is largely based on the ENP-7660B too with their own tweaks because its also made by Enhance anyway.

IDLE (desktop watt) sound pressure reading. I’ve also confirmed that the ticking noise I heard was fan bearing noise.

Unfortunately, I can’t pull a load number because the CPU and GPU drown it out.

both produced by enhance, different paint finish, smooth v textured. same fan curve/map. identical internals. currently different stock fan, yate loon / adda. both dual ball bearing. yate loon lower rpm less cfm will be slightly quieter than adda. higher retained thermals in psu by comparison. iirc yate loon 7500rpm 9cfm adda 12k rpm 11cfm at 100% duty cycle. Will spend most of their time at 25% duty cycle on 3vdc.

Will have a side by side and internals view video during the coming week x

Fantastic info! I suspected as much. Have your units had bearing click?
