Hello,

After a lot of reading and hesitation, this will be my first build ever

Parts
Model
CASENcase M1 v6.1 Silver
CASE FanNoctua NF-A9x14 PWM Chromax
PSUCorsair SF750
MOBOAsus ROG Strix B550-I
CPUAMD Ryzen 9 5950x
CPU CoolerNZXT Kraken x53
CPU FansNoctua NF-A12x25 PWM (x2)
GPUZotac RTX-3090 Trinity OC deshroud
GPU FansNoctua NF-A12x25 PWM (x2)
RAMCrucial Ballistix DDR4-3600 C16 2x16GB
SSDSabrent Rocket NVMe 4.0 2TB

The case is still at the customs and I'm waiting for the delivery of the CPU and the GPU...

Let's see how long it will take

Edit 26/03 :
Ncase received
Initially ordered a TUF 3080 OC with a price guaranteed until 30/04 but not even sure I'll get one before September apparently...
They offered me a Zotac 3090 Trinity OC from an "unhappy" customer so I went for it
Still in line for the CPU (5900x and 5950x) which should arrive mid-April

Edit 06/04 :
Missed the delivery for AMD restock at my store, I'm now 11th position for 5950x and 160th for 5900x
Better chance to get my hand 5950x first but not before June apparently ...
I might take a 5800x in the meantime

Edit 12/04 :
Received the tray version of the 5950x, I'm ready for action 🥳
Edit 12/04 bis :
Apparently a mistake, a box version just left the store, I have to send back the tray one
I should assemble everything by the end of the week

Edit 13/04 :
Boxed version received, tray one sent back

Cable management nightmare !

Final result

Didn't mount the Noctua A9 as I notice, while building, it was not the 14mm version 😩

Thermals are ok, 60°C while playing 1440p
Will see when 4K TV will arrive but I'm afraid of the VRAM as I noticed it was reaching high temps while benchmarking the card
It's on the back of the card, and even with the A9 on the rear, it's not helping
I might water-cool it...

Hey Fred,

I've read from other configs with the 5950 that some people have had to set the PPT in the bios to 120 down from the 140 default. Have you had to under clock the cpu on this? Is that 60 degree C reading you're getting at standard 140 PPT?

Hi 124C41

Sorry for the late (late) reply

To be honest I didn't touch anything on the CPU nor GPU
I've put the Asus Auto Performance in the BIOS which set the frequency of the CPU to 4GHZ... Always...
And for the power, I don't even know...

I'll check once my setup will be up and running again

So....

After receiving the LG 55C1 and played some Ultra 4K games, I've noticed the VRAM was around 90°C as an average and it was a bit noisy

I decided to watercool the GPU as well, which means, custom loop

Waterblock
CPU : EK-Quantum Velocity D-RGB - AMD Nickel + Plexi
GPU Front : EK-Quantum Vector Trinity RTX 3080/3090 D-RGB - Nickel + Acetal
GPU Back : EK-Quantum Vector Trinity RTX 3080/3090 Active Backplate - Acetal

Reservoir : Iceman NCASE
Pump : EK-DDC 3.2 PWM (12V PWM pump) + EK-DDC Heatsink Housing - Black

Rads
Side : EK-CoolStream PE 240
Bottom : XSPC TX240

Fittings
EK-Quantum Torque STC-10/16 - Black (x10)
EK-AF Classic Angled 90° - Black (x4)
EK-Quantum Torque Rotary 90° - Black (x
EK-Quantum Torque Rotary 45° - Black (x1)
Koolance QD3 Female Quick Disconnect No-Spill Coupling - 10x16mm (x2)
Koolance QD3 Male Quick Disconnect No-Spill Coupling - 10x16mm (x2)
Koolance Swiveling Elbow G1/4 Low profile - Black (x1)

Tube : EK-Tube ZMT Matte Black 15,9/9,5mm

Misc :
Alphacool Eiszapfen temperature sensor G1/4 IG/IG mit AG Adapter

This looks like it was inspired by custom look made by Optimum Tech, I'm really interested in seeing the thermals for this.

Hi, the EK active backplate is supposed to be mounted serially, so inlet on one side of the terminal and outlet on another side. Do you have enough flow through the backplate in this configuration?

Thanks

It's totally inspired by him yes, even from the beginning
I think the first time I saw the Ncase was in one of his videos

I'll revert with detailed figures for the thermals, I still have some adjustments to do (cf below)

I'm curious about the Alphacool temperature sensor. Where did you install it?

Indeed, it's supposed to be serial
With the actual way it's installed for the moment, the coolant is kind of static on the backplate as one the port is not used, so the thermal dropped by only 10°C

I tried using the Koolance low profile fitting but I'm missing 5mm at the end...

I didn't want to modify the case (yet) so I ordered a spare terminal in order to drill it and create a parallel setup and I'm expecting to gain another 20°C on the memory temp

love this thing and have 1 in my loop as well. wish I had bought like 2 or 3 to place them all over the loop LOL

yep, the biggest issue with active backplate is the serial flow path requiring tubing on both sides of the terminal. Bykski does the same. So sad

Yeah, that was why I went with the MP5Works backplate, because the terminal provided by EK for the active backplate would force fittings to exist where they should not. I have emailed EK asking why they did not provide a parallel option.

Was not aware of this brand, could have been my choice...

I found this terminal which will not need any extra drilling
EK-FC Terminal DUAL Parallel 1-Slot - Acetal

Seems to work with two waterblocks apart by 20.3mm

The spacing on my terminal is 19.35mm

I'll try to see if this 1mm difference will work or not

Quick benchmark
Ryzen master : 4500MHz - 1.35V
GPU : Power 110% - Core +400MHz - Memory +600MHz

Port Royal : 13148
TimeSpy Extreme : 10032 (GPU 10061 - CPU 9875)

For the temps
CPU idle : 45°C
CPU load (Port Royal) : 64°C
CPU load (TimeSpy Extreme) : 74°C

GPU idle : 29°C
GPU load (Port Royal) : 49°C
GPU load (TimeSpy Extreme) : 54°C

GPU junction/hot spot idle : 38°C / 39°C
GPU junction/hot spot load (Port Royal) : 62°C / 63°C
GPU junction/hot spot load (TimeSpy Extreme) : 65°C / 66°C

TimeSpy : 18106

TimeSpy Extreme Stress Test : 97.8%
CPU stress : 68°C
GPU stress : 67°C
GPU junction/hot spot stress : 80°C / 86°C

Cinebench Multi 26871
Cinebench Single 1342

Indeed, that 1mm is almost half of the diameter of the screw…
Anyway, I'm waiting for the original one that I'll receive next week hopefully then I’ll drill it to make a parallel setup and still have one serial original terminal

Spare terminal received and drilled in order to have a parallel setup
Here the final temps

Current temp is 10min after the TimeSpy Extreme Stress Test

The junction dropped by 10°C so I'm glad I modified the terminal :)

The fan/pump curbs are also based on Optimum Tech one

Fans : min 20% until 35°C - max 70% at 53°C (water temp)
Pump : min 14% until 35°C - max 40% at 53°C (water temp)

thanks for the write up, its helping me with my build alot. what do you mean when you say youre missing 5mm at the end?

With the low profile koolance, I’m not able to put the side radiator in place, especially with everything attached
I know it’s not clear but in the picture, the radiator is just sitting on the GPU

Maybe a dumb question, but where do you drill on the terminal? Straight through on both inlets/outlets?
