Hello,

can you run PCI-E 4.0 cards on PCI-E 3.0 risers in PCi-E 4.0 x16 mode?

A few users complain about instabilities. The card is running at 4.0 x16 with riser (from 2018) and the get errors while gaming.

So you need to upgrade your riser to 4.0? And at the end of 2021 we might see 5.0.

The performance difference is about up to 5%. 5% is nothing, but the faster 3080 like strix and evga ultra with pci-e 4.0 are faster than the slower 3090. So in a certain way is makes no sense to buy a 1000-2000 euro card and still use PCI-E 3.0

No, you can't run gen4 mode on gen3 risers.

And no, it is not 5% difference, there is basically no difference at all, in fact, gen2 x16 is still enough for most use cases.
