Since 4th Gen APUs are not out yet, this is just a theoretical question. Will it be possible to enable Freesync through DP 1.4 port existing on the MoBo (for example Strix b550i and Aorus b550i have it)?
My second question is; if we assume that the APU will be enough powerful to deliver 240+ fps with ultra settings on CS:GO. Will it possible to reach that fps through DP 1.4 on 4K or at least 2K? Theoretically DP 1.4 is capable to deliver 240hz @4K but my concern is whether there is anything limiting that on the APUs.

Edit: Only DP 2.0 allows 240hz on 4K. I don’t think there is any board supporting it yet, right?

When it comes to higher refresh rates at 4K resolution you start to run into the bandwidth limitations of DP 1.4.

4K with 10 bit colour will max out at 98Hz.
4K with 8 bit colour will max out at 120Hz.

Beyond that there are 2 options.

If the APUs support DP 1.4 with DSC (Display Stream Compression), and you have a monitor with DSC support (ASUS ROG Strix XG27UQ for example) you can get to 144Hz at 4K with 10-bit colour.

If you drop your Chroma Subsampling you can get up to 144Hz

I don't know of any 4K monitors that can do 240Hz yet.

Also, I don't think there's much chance of seeing above 144Hz at 4K on the new APUs.

Thank you very much for the reply. You are right about 4K capabilities on the APUs. It needs some years to achieve those numbers.

At least we should see performance from the AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs and Intel 11th Gen CPUs that’s on par or better than entry level discrete GPUs like the GeForce 1030. Being able to play games like CS:GO at reasonable frame rates without having to buy a graphics card is a big step forward.
