That's fair and from my "novice" SFF background I still find it a challenge to make cable management look OK. In any case, what I specifically was thinking wouldn't likely be beneficial anyway. If you were using an ATX board in the mATX case, there wouldn't really be a way to use the cutouts.

I like the second design, where the pattern is aligned to the front, and staggered in the rear. It's a strong visual clue as to case orientation, and if you were interested in putting the case vertical there would be something a little more interesting at the back/top of the case.
