Custom cable for the Nvidia 3070 FE came in. Notice there's no black adapter at the top of the card. Might be the first in the world?
Got it in exchange for sending my Nvidia factory adapter to the owner of a popular custom cable site so I'm the beta tester. Works fine and is cleaner.
You can...
Using the 2nd fan under my mobo doesn't feel like it's helping CPU temps at all.
Feels the same, except the system is louder overall when that thin Noctua fan ramps up.
Unfortunately testing is going to be on hold. I've actually just mailed off the Nvidia 12 pin adapter to a certain popular custom cable maker so he can start creating them for his store as they're different to the 3080/3090.
Since I was also installing a new fan under the motherboard, this took a while last night as I had to take everything out.
Bending the riser cables on the A4.1 at the bottom was a bit scary and I started to doubt I actually could get enough clearance to make sure the fan could spin freely...
3070 in and booted up.
Installed a fan under the motherboard too so it took me a while to get everything out first and then rebuild.
Tired so I’ll close it up and test tomorrow.
Thanks. I have Pslate cables as well but hadn't used any SATA drives. I've been thinking of adding one to the front.
I have a couple of 18 inch monoprice SATA cables that seem to be an OK length.
Well, it doesn't say it's Gen 1 or Gen 2.
I guess you have to assume it's Gen 2 if it does say it supports 10Gbps. Something that would need to be tested.
Appreciate the writeup @DribbelDog . We have extremely similar setups so I was really curious to see how the FE would do in there.
Not catastrophic as some may have thought. Still think I'll stick to the 3070 but instead will try for the FE.
For those curious on the XC3 versions:
Black - No backplate, 1710mhz boost
Gaming - Backplate, 1710mhz boost
Ultra- Backplate, 1755mhz boost
Hmm, no black plate preferable?
