For those who want to maintain their option for an M.2 SSD, the USB 3.0 to USB 3.1 Gen 2 Key-A 20 pin adapter seems like a good option. (~25 EUR/USD) !! Please be aware. See comment from @LoserCard below. Except for the Lian-Li (which seems to be no longer sold), you probably need a USB 3.0...
