Yeah I mentioned that in my undervolting exploration. The CPU likes to take a ridiculous amount of voltage when it's boosting just one of the cores, which is why I recommend manually setting the voltage regardless if it would just be stock voltage.

Hrmmm. Well, I didn't do anything special to get voltage control working. Have you tried both offset and manual mode?

Hmmm, have you tried examining voltages in the OS? I've never looked at the side panel in the BIOS for reliable information.

I'm curious where we're seeing this: is this only through software-based overclockers? I've noticed Ryzen Master and Gigabyte's utilities only change voltages in some monitoring software, if at all, but I've had no trouble setting voltage in the BIOS.

Okay, here's the solution (had the same problem myself). Download the Media Creation Tool (second option): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Choose to download the ISO for a DVD. Then right-click the ISO, choose Mount, and run the install from there.

Alright, gave up on modifying my Zalman to work with the case, so I worked with the case to fit my Spire. Had to bring my OC down to 3.3GHz due to restricted airflow and new, non-set thermal paste. Might be able to get it up against after the latter part is sorted, but I found something...

Here we go! Managed to get the Creator update on this thing, and that's solved my issues so far. No BSoD in sight! Found some interesting results: My CPU was only boosting to 3.15 on all cores, though I'd previously always seen 3.2 Setting the frequency to 3.15GHz in bios resulted in Windows...

I actually am reinstalling Windows cuz it was so bad. But updated chipset drivers will definitely be one of the first things going on the new install.

Well I have had the worst night of BSODs I think I've ever had. Hoping that finally getting the AMD chipset drivers to install will fix some of this. Looks like I'm not getting to those benchmarks tonight, though.

I'll have VRM stress test and idle numbers for you tonight, then. Regardless, if you're talking "normal usage," you should be totally fine. I'm only getting high temps running full throttle on synthetic benches.

Yes, clock lowering disappears from Windows power options when the CPU is overclocked (in BIOS), and no monitoring software I've used so far has shown clockspeed dynamically lowering during those times. However, the CPU is reaching very low (~25 W) power usage when idle overclocked to 3.6 GHz...

I'm going to be redoing idle tests at various voltage/frequency/Cool&Quiet state combinations for my own sake. Do you guys want me to post that data once I have it all up (probably 24 hours from now), or is what I already posted good enough?

Yeah I figured out that it was Windows Update hiding in the Services tab because the Modules Installer Worker had become corrupted. Fun times! PC runs a lot smoother on start now that I fixed that and Windows Update isn't vainly using 100% of my disk anymore! Good things Windows installs are...

As promised, I come bearing data! You can see the 10C temp difference between the board and CPU reported temps. Not sure why that's happening. Also, I was calling out the Vcore as seen by the motherboard when I said it went up to ~1.25. You can see that the Vcore as reported by the CPU...

If one does want to go the AIO route on this board, this reminds me that Cryorig's cooler might be the one to go with: http://www.cryorig.com/a-series_us.php It already includes a little VRM fan that mounts on the CPU block.
