FlexATX Computex 2017 roundup

FlexATX has grown in popularity for shrinking down SFF builds beyond what even SFX will allow, and I’ve seen several cases in development in the forum that make use of these server form factor power supplies. So here at Computex 2017 I made sure to scout out all the big FlexATX manufacturers to see if they had any cool new products that could be suitable for consumer applications (i.e. not deafeningly loud). Unless otherwise noted, all the following FlexATX are 150mm and have the -12V rail. So in alphabetical order: ASPOWER This is a brand I’m not familiar with at …

be quiet! 500W and 600W SFX-L PSUs

I’m constantly on the lookout for new SFF power supplies (in hopes that in the not too distant future I can gleefully gloat at ATX’s demise) and be quiet! has two SFX-L units in their booth here at Computex 2017. There will be two models, the 500W SFX-L-500W and the 600W SFX-L-600W (gotta love self-explanatory model numbers). They are both Gold-rated, feature a single 12V rail, fully modular, have a 3-year warranty, and they’ll include a SFX to ATX bracket. This unit is not semi-fanless, and the be quiet! gentleman I was talking to said the reason is that it’s already …

SilverStone cases at Computex 2017: PIO and Micro-STX

When we rolled up to the SilverStone booth on the opening day of Computex, we got there a bit early and planned to check out the nearby booths before our meeting with SilverStone.  But that plan got derailed when we spied this fascinating prototype at the front of the booth: This is a prototype case that utilizes the PIO motherboard form factor, a rare variety of mobo that features a PCIe slot along the top edge of the board rotated so that it is parallel with the plane of the motherboard’s PCB. There has been discussion on the forum for the past …

SilverStone Power Supplies at Computex 2017

We stopped by the SilverStone booth yesterday, and I already covered the prototype fanless 450W SFX-L because it’s just so crazy (in an awesome way). But of course SilverStone had other power supplies to look at, so here they are: First off is a FlexATX form factor PSU, the FX350. As the name implies, it is a 350W unit with Gold-rated efficiency and the 12V rail capable of the full rated wattage alone. Fortunately for SFF builders this is of the shorter 150mm length FlexATX variety. The cables are sleeved, though it’s nothing special. I’m not sure if they’ll do it …

ASRock X299E-ITX/ac first look

Edit: Took a bit longer than a day, but here is the much more in-depth look at “The Little Monster”. We’ll cover it in more depth tomorrow, but we made a quick stop by the ASRock booth in between meetings today and snapped some pictures of the newly announced X299E-ITX/ac motherboard. Apologies in advance for the focus issues, I’ll try better tomorrow. So in no particular order: Rear IO consists of the 802.11ac wifi antenna connectors, CMOS reset?, USB 3.1 (Type-C + Type-A), 4x USB 3.0 Type-A, 2x Intel gigabit NICs, and 7.1 ALC 1220 audio. The M.2 daughterboard repurposes …

Hands on with SilverStone’s NJ450-SXL fanless SFX-L prototype!

In a SFF Network exclusive, we take a took at a early SilverStone prototype of a 450W fanless (you read that right, completely passively cooled) SFX-L power supply here at Computex 2017! The prototype arrived at the SilverStone booth on the show floor hot off a flight from the factory in China, just as we were starting to wrap up our visit with Tony Ou, SilverStone’s marketing manager. It was so last minute, in fact, that Tony didn’t even know it was going to be here! Before we begin gushing, though, let’s talk specs. This new unit conforms to the SFX-L …

ZOTAC announces two GTX 1080 Ti Mini’s!

Not that long ago we reviewed ZOTAC’s GTX 1080 Mini, which set a new bar for SFF GPU horsepower, yet now they’ve outdone themselves by cramming the even beefier GTX 1080 Ti into the same form factor! TechPowerUP has more details, but from the renders we can glean that this new model uses the same heatsink and shroud as the GTX 1080 Mini, so the overall dimensions should be the same at 211mm x 125mm. If the renders are accurate (keep in mind the renders should be taken with a grain of salt), the PCB extends a bit farther on the GTX 1080 …
